Kinta Valley, the world's No. 1 tin-producing region.

Kinta Valley: The Heart of Perak

Recognised as one of the world's most productive and easily-worked tin regions, there is no disputing the significance of the Kinta Valley as a catalyst in the early  economic growth of Malaysia. Formed by Kinta River and lying between two prominent mountain ranges, the valley was the centre of the thriving tin mining industry that began in the 1820s, when Chinese immigrants settled in Perak and opened the mines.

By 1883, the hardworking miners had turned Malaysia into the largest tin producer in the world, and in the ensuing years, led to the development of Ipoh as a major commercial and industrial hub. Although tin is no longer an important contributor to the country's economy today, the Kinta Valley serves as a window into a golden era of prosperity, the vestiges of which remain till this day.
